Job Searches

When searching for a job online there are tools to help.  These tools are not really shown to us and are not really used that often. There are a few things which this page will show and explain to you.

Information

On every job search website there will be a couple of different text boxes at the top.  These would be what you would type into to start your search. These search boxes would be:

Keywords

The keyword would be the job which you want to look and apply for.  This would be a way for the website to send you to where you want to be. Below are a few examples of keywords:

IT Technician

Joiner

Health and Safety

Brick layer

Office Administrator

Once you have typed in your keyword you would then move onto the second box.

Location

This is a very simple box all you need to do is type in the town/city where you live.

Once these two boxes are filled in you can click on the search button.  This will then bring up all of the jobs in your local area but this can still be a bit confusing to people.  This is when you need to refine your job search to make things easier.

Here is some of the things you can change to shorten your job search to meet your needs:

Distance Range

The distance range is a good thing to know about when searching for a job.  This is because you can search for jobs closer to you instead of 25-50 miles away.  This would usually be a drop down menu with different options.  This would usually range from exact location to 50 miles away. The further away you select the more jobs there will be.  The closer you select the number of jobs will go down.

Job Search Hints

If you want to look at the latest jobs that are available then there is an option to sort your search by date.  This would bring the latest jobs up at the top of the list.  This makes things better because some job websites still keep jobs advertised even after the closing date.  This way you would know that the jobs is still available.

If you are someone looking for anything then here is a hint for you.  If you go onto any jobsite there are two thing you need to do to show all of the jobs in that area.

1. Type in you location into the location box at the top of the page.

2. Some website if you keep the keyword box blank it will search for any job in that area.  If not then type in "all" into the keyword area and this will also bring up all of the jobs.
